Meet Dr Then

Our Surgeon.

Dr Siew-Yin Then (MBBS, FRANZCO) is an Australian-trained ophthalmologist, with particular expertise in cataract and lens-replacement surgery and eyelid surgery. She has spent the last 20 years training and practising as an ophthalmologist.  She works full-time as both a clinician and surgeon and has performed over 20,000 eye and eyelid procedures to date.

Basic Training.

Dr Then was born in Perth and graduated with honours in Medicine (MBBS) from the University of Western Australia. She has obtained dual fellowships, having initially completed the General Practice training program in WA and gaining Fellowship to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). She subsequently completed specialist ophthalmology training in WA and obtained Fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).

Specialty Training.

Dr Then undertook further advanced sub-specialty training in oculoplastic surgery at leading institutions in the United Kingdom, including Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge, and the Corneo-Plastic unit at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. During this time, she presented at multiple international conferences, and published several peer-reviewed articles in the field of oculoplastic surgery.  Dr Then manages all eyelid problems, including droopy upper eyelids, eyelid malpositions, and eyelid tumor excision and reconstructions.

Special Interests/Expertise.

Dr Then has a special interest in cataract and refractive surgery. She is one of only a handful of ophthalmologists in WA to complete the Graduate Diploma (Diploma of CRS, University of Sydney) in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from the University of Sydney.

She was the first ophthalmologist in Peel to offer multifocal and extended-depth-of-focus lens implants during cataract surgery. She routinely uses toric lens implants for the correction of astigmatism, in all patients.

Dr Then is experienced in both routine and complex cataract and lens extraction surgery and offers a comprehensive range of intraocular lens implants to suit her patients’ needs and desires to be as independent of their glasses as possible after surgery.
